Stanley Joseph MacDonald passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 6th, 2010 at the Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack, at the age of 78 years, after a courageous 6 year battle with cancer.
Stan was born June 13th, 1932 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, and is survived by his companion & partner Verna Lebel, his son Mike (Christine) Lebel, grandson Luke, granddaughter Kimberley, and his sister Gloria (Marcel) Begin and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Stan was predeceased by his mother Mary Gibson, his father Archie MacDonald, his sister Katie, his brother Nelson (Buddy) MacDonald, and his niece Marie Jean (Chickie) Begin and his nephew Allan Begin.
Stan moved to Red Lake, Ontario with his mother and brother Buddy in 1948. He worked in the gold mines and as a truck driver until 1951. He then joined the army and served in Korea for approximately two years. When he returned from Korea he was trained as a Paratrooper and was honourably discharged in 1955. Stan moved to British Columbia in 1972, it was at that time his son Mike was born. When Stan was 65 he retired and moved to Williams Lake and lived there for several years with his son and family on the farm. Stan was still far too ambitious to stay retired and he moved to Chilliwack in 2002 where he took up gardening and maintenance. His true life passion was always farming and the outdoor life. Stan continued doing maintenance until his health would no longer allow him to.
Stan was truly at peace with his life when the Lord peacefully came and gently wrapped His arms around him and took him home. Stan was a gentle, kind, loving man and he will be sadly missed by all.
A Celebration of Stan’s life will be held on Monday, July 19th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Tea Room at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chilliwack Hospice.
