Shirley McDonald (nee Evans) passed away at her home in Rosedale, BC after a lengthy struggle with COPD.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 49 years, Frank McDonald and her brother Glen Evans.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Cathy); grandchildren: Rhian and Duncan; daughter, Linda; sisters, Betty Evans and Hilda Ginther; brother, Jack Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley’s parents, Rev. David Evans and Hilda Evans Rudd instilled in her pride in her Welsh heritage. Deeply influenced by her formative years in Saskatchewan, she joined the CCF/NDP in the 1950s and remained actively involved in communities: BC PTA Council; 1976 UN Habitat Forum; Rosedale Athletic Club; Rosedale United Church.

She will be remembered for her kindness to customers at the Rosedale Post Office. Her lively wit and keen intelligence stayed with her to the end (she scored the highest marks in English lit in SE Saskatchewan in high School).

She will be deeply missed. At Shirley’s request, there is no service, although she would appreciate it if donations were made to the Canadian Lung Assn.

Angels watching ever round thee,

All through the night,

In thy slumbers close surround thee,

All through the night.

They will of all fears disarm thee,

No forebodings should alarm thee,

They will let no peril harm thee

All through the night.

— Ar Hyd y Nos

(Welsh Lullaby)
