It is with great sadness and tears in my eyes that I announce the passing of my mother, Shirley Anne Dwviniczuk. She fought a courageous battle against cancer and passed away with family at her bedside on November 21, 2012 at Abbotsford Hospital at the age of 75 years.

Shirley Anne Elmourne was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on December 20, 1936 to William and Mary Elmourne. She was the oldest of eleven children. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of 19. Her first posting was to Winnipeg, MB. It was there that she met her future husband, George Dwviniczuk. George and Shirley were stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia when I, their only child was born. Over the following years, they were posted to several military bases in Canada and Europe.

Shirley was a licensed Practical Nurse until she retired in 1998. She loved nursing and truly cared for the patients. Often, she could be heard whistling while she worked. Her steps are all over the wards of Chilliwack General Hospital. Mom loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, Kristin and Kyle. Her son-in-law, Harry was her go to man when she needed something done. She was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and special friend to many. Shirley enjoyed her little spot at the Glen, sharing stories around the campfire with her friends. Later, when she was retired, Shirley loved little trips to the casinos.

I would like to thank all of the friends and family that supported us during this difficult time. To VDG, you gave me strength. And, as our day once passes to the next, we will remember the final time we held you hand and said “I love you”. We will never forget you. Shirley is now in heaven because that is just where she was meant to be. So try not to cry and remember the beautiful lady that graced us with her presence.

Shirley is lovingly remembered by her husband, George Dwviniczuk, daughter Doreen Dwviniczuk (Harry Faber), granddaughter Kristin Dwviniczuk, granddaughter Jackie Bovee (Dan), grandson Kyle Gero, granddaughter Julianna Faber; brothers & sisters, Catherine Sullivan, Ada Keough (Irvin), Joseph Elmourne (Lori), Edmond Elmourne, Heather Elmourne, Mary Kemkemian, George Elmourne and Doreen Elmourne.

She is predeceased by her parents William Thomas and Mary Theresa Elmourne, sister Sandra McKay and brother William Elmourne. A funeral service was held on November 26, 2012 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Santos officiating. Memorial Donations may be made in Shirley’s name to the SPCA.
