Shirley Ann Carol BERNARD

Shirley Ann Carol BERNARD

Shirley passed away on April 3rd, 2010 at the Cascade Hospice after a long battle with cancer and heart disease.

She will be greatly missed by Frank, her loving husband of 39 years, sons Jeff and Todd, and grandsons Brady, Jordan and Owen.

Shirley was born in Trenton, Ontario in 1938 where she spent her youth. After her father returned from overseas after the war, the family moved to Chilliwack and then to Oromocto, New Brunswick where she met Frank.

They were married in April 1971 and moved throughout the country following Frank’s military career. Shirley and Frank permanently settled in Chilliwack in 1989.

Devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, Shirley loved to garden and bird watch. Frank and Shirley spent countless hours at their getaway in the Glen, Washington State, watching birds of which the Hummingbird was her favourite.

Shirley is predeceased by her parents Sid and Mary Yardy and her brothers Ernest and Tom.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful people at the Cascade Hospice and Dr. John Chow.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held Sunday, April 11th, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #280 on Vedder Road in Sardis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack.

When you see a Hummingbird, think of Shirley and when you think of her, hug a child.
