After a two- year battle with cancer, early August 11, 2004 Shawn William Hawes passed away peacefully at home at the age of 40. Born in Chilliwack January 26, 1964, he lived in Germany and Quebec with his parents; but Chilliwack was home.
A 1983 grad at Sardis Senior Secondary, Shawn held various jobs over his short life; but his greatest passion was raising and selling exotic birds and animals. He was an avid falconer and a member of the B.C. Falconry & Hawking Club and North Amercian Falconry Association. He was a qualified beemaster and had a trapping license. He was also an excellent cabinet maker and wood turner.
He had a special affinity for children. No child could resist Shawn and his animals. His private zoo was open to all, particularly the children.
He leaves behind to mourn, his mother and father, Kristine and Wes Hawes; his sister, Kelly and his beloved nieces: Kirsten and Kassandra. Also survived by special little friend, Stephanie; his grandmother, Isabel Hawes and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Shawn’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #280, Vedder Crossing on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Padre Kevin Pentland officiating.
Cremation, Valley Crematorium, Chilliwack.
