We are sad to announce the death of (Sarah) Mary Tyson on October 23, 2010.

Family was first and foremost for Mary; she was a dedicated wife to Tom for 56 years and loved her children, Julie and husband, Gord Halfnights, and Marshall and his wife, Patty Tyson and her grandchildren, Kristen Wicks (Chris), Ryan Halfnights, Jody McGarva (Jamie), Carly Tyson and Mark Halfnights with passion and pride. Aiden Wicks, her great-grandson, was a source of joy to her the past two years. Mary was a devoted daughter providing, with Tom, many years of care to her mother, Grandma Kendall.

She leaves a family instilled with the values of volunteerism, athleticism, hard work, common sense and the ability to see and express the humour in any situation. Mary had her family around her in her last days and died comfortably after several years with dementia. She was born on February 13, 1924 in England and immigrated to Canada with Tom in 1955, settling in Chilliwack, her home until Saturday.

Mary was very bright and creative; channelling her talents into her garden, knitting and sewing. Though she was a shadow of her former self in recent years, Mary was a driving force behind many agencies and projects in Chilliwack, among them, the Hospital Auxiliary, the 1967 Centennial celebrations, the Community Arts Council, Community Services, the Cheam Skating Club and St. Thomas Church.

A service to commemorate her life will be held at St. Thomas Church in Chilliwack on November 13th at 11 am. No flowers please. Donations may be made to Chilliwack Community Services.
