Samuel James McIlwaine passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the age of 85 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Elsie in 1977 and by his son John in 1972.
He will be missed by his son James McIlwaine and his daughter Barbara and her husband Allan Payson. He is also survived by his grandchildren and their families: Carolyn, Scott, Kayla and Hannah Davidson; Kimberley, Alim and Isaiah Alibhai; Michael Payson; and Riley McIlwaine.
Sam was born in Groomsport, Co. Down, Northern Ireland on July 9, 1919. He enlisted in the R.A.F. in 1937, served throughout the European War Theatre and was discharged in 1946 when he immigrated to Canada and married Elsie. He then served in the R.C.A.F. from 1951 to 1969, when they retired to Chilliwack. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling, reading, and gardening. Also he was a marvelous storyteller which we will all miss.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. from Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack.
