Russell Pratt

July 14, 1935 - January 17, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather on January 17, 2017 at Chilliwack General Hospital with his loved ones by his side. Russell was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 14, 1935. He was predeceased by his wife Maryann in 2015. He leaves to mourn him, children; Russell, Trudy (Walter) Peters, Rodney and Roxann Grant, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He joined the military as a boy soldier and made the army his life. He rose through the ranks and moved his family across the country on his many postings. Russ retired in Chilliwack with the rank of Master Warrant Officer with 35 years of service. One of the highlights of Russ's career was when he was on duty at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton and Queen Elizabeth walked across a stretch of lawn to engage him in a conversation about the impressive military contingent on parade. He was also proud to participate in the military competitive SMG team who were Canadian champions for several consecutive years. He enjoyed curling, golfing at Chilliwack Golf and Country Club and was an honorary life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 280. His involvement went beyond simple participation as he regularly stepped up to be a part of the executive in the clubs and organizations he attended. Russ enjoyed many friends and associates, he was affectionately known as Big Buddy. He will be missed by all the special people who knew him. A special thank you to Dr. Black and the I.C.U. teams at Chilliwack General Hospital for their kind care of dad.

~ Until we meet again, we'll love you forever dad ~
