C. Ronald (Soapy) Smith

August 6, 1930 – December 3, 2016

Ron was born to Charlie and Eva Smith in Barlochan on Lake Muskoka. Always a hard worker Ron began his working life delivering newspapers, collecting maple syrup, chopping ice blocks from the lake and as a carpenter. He met the love of his life Dorothy on a blind date and they were married for 65 years. He delivered gas by truck and was captain of the gas boat. Following the birth of their four children Ron’s trucking job brought the family to British Columbia to settle. Using his knowledge as a trucker and business man Ron ran his own successful business until his early retirement. Then he found the time for golf, woodworking, his motorcycle and winters in Arizona. Their trailer also took them to the east coast to visit family. Ron had a passion for bowling. Dad always gave a 110% effort in anything he did. When Mom's health declined Dad took care of her until his own health began to fail. They held hands wherever they went. Ron is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, daughters Rhonda (Garry), Charlene, Ramona (Ron) and son Rick, granddaughters Sarah (Jeff), Kimberly (Grant), Raquel (Zac), Tara (Joel), Tiffany (Brandon), grandsons Dale, Ty, Jeremy and 11 great grandchildren and predeceased by granddaughter Jordana and brother Clyde, survived by sister Linda (Robin), brothers Jim (Sonja) and Laurie (Toni). In lieu of flowers donations to Parkinsons Canada (PSP) would be appreciated.
