March 16, 1939 - April 20, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Berge, a beloved husband, father and grandfather. After battling many health issues Fred passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2020.
Left fondly to remember Fred is his wife Myrna, his daughter Cheryl Berge (Brian), his son Stewart Berge (Kelly), his four grandchildren Hailey, Chloe, Miles, Simon and his
sister Shirley Stewart.
Born in St. Boniface Manitoba, Fred grew up in Burnaby British Columbia. At the young age of 16 he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He was in the Royal Canadian
Electrical Mechanical Engineers Apprentice Training program, known as the "Green Monsters", where he graduated as a weapons technician. He was retained as an instructor before becoming a member of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. Fred proudly served our country for 37 years. He saw service in Egypt, Cyprus and the
United States.
Along the way he met and married Myrna. With many moves that are typical of career in the Armed Forces, Fred and his family settled in Chilliwack in 1981. Serving primarily with the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD) and also with the 8th Canadian Hussars one of Fred's many highlights was leading the first Leopard C1 Fly Over Squadron in Canada and West Germany, ending his regular service here in Chilliwack and Jericho Beach.
Fred could be found enjoying the company of his buddies on the golf course and in the curling rink. Fred, a soldier's soldier, will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and his great sense of humour.
Due to present circumstances a celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
