It is with deep sadness we announce that Roderick Morris Gregor MacKenzie (Greg) passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011.

Greg was born on May 18, 1920 in Duncan, BC,

the youngest child of Hugh William and Sarah Ellen MacKenzie.

He joined the Canadian Army as a private soldier in 1939 and served for 30 years including 8 years in armed conflict in England, Italy, France, Holland, Germany and Korea. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) and retired as a Captain serving at CFB Chilliwack.

Greg embarked on a new career and served 16 years as Transportation Supervisor for the Chilliwack School District overseeing of operations of the school bus fleet. Greg and his wife Mary called Chilliwack home for 40 years. Greg was an active member of the Fraser Valley Shrine Club, the Mount Zion Lodge and the Korea Veterans Association.

Greg’s wife Mary passed away on January 19, 2011. He is survived by his sons Rodrick (Linda) and Colin, daughter Maggie (George), granddaughters Monique and Mariette, grandson Justin (Karen and her son Aiden), great-granddaughter Emily and many friends.

A remembrance service will be held in the New Year at St. Stephen’s Church in Saanichton, BC, a place that is an important part of our family history and dear to our hearts. Greg will be laid alongside his wife Mary.

Our family thanks Brian Donovan, and the wonderful staff at Langley Gardens for their loving care and support.
