November 3, 1931 - October 25, 2019
Robin Silverstone Jillings passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital on October 25, 2019, at the age of 87 years. Robin will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Michael (Debbie) and Brian and grandson Christopher as well as his brother, Peter (Marina) and family. He was predeceased by his wife Linda of 59 years, his parents Charles and Katherine Jillings (nee Allen) and his sister Barbara Dahl (nee Jillings).
Robin was born in London, England and moved to Toronto with his parents before his first birthday. The family headed west in about 1938, settling in West Vancouver before moving to Chilliwack and Cultus Lake in 1948.
Robin had a long career as DND property manager at CFB Chilliwack. He started in 1954 and was one of the earliest employees of the 11 Works Company RCE, as it was then called. He retired in 1995 just prior to the base closure in 1997.
Inspired by his mother, Robin enjoyed acting in live theatre and radio plays. Robin was passionate about photography and classical music. An award winning photographer, he was a longtime member and past president (1959) of the Chilliwack Camera Club. Robin was an avid hiker and recently recounted his fond memory of climbing Mt. Cheam in 1956, hiking from the base to the peak with a group of six. After seven hours he was one of four who made it to the peak, of course snapping pictures of the magnificent views of Mt. Baker and other snow-capped peaks. Robin enjoyed cycling with Linda, spending countless happy hours touring on their tandem bicycle.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, please consider making a donation to the Chilliwack Hospital Foundation in memory of Robin.
