Robert Richard HESKETH

August 5, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving brother Rob

He passed away quietly at home in Kamloops after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Rob was born and raised in Chilliwack where he began his love of sports. Rob participated in track and field, soccer and hockey.

He is most notably remembered for his years playing on the original Chilliwack Bruins during the years 1969–1972, where he excelled as a player.

Rob then went on to play for the New Westminster Bruins and later for teams in the American Hockey League and the Southern Hockey League. Rob was sidelined for a year because of a neck injury, which prevented him from signing with the Houston Aeros of the World Hockey League where Gordie Howe and his sons were playing at the time.

He eventually returned to B.C. to continue playing hockey in Vernon and Burns Lake.

Rob finally settled into the Kamloops area and played for a couple of minor teams there.

Rob also graduated from UBC in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Rob is predeceased by his parents Richard and Rita Hesketh and is survived by his brothers: Ronald Hesketh, and Randall Hesketh (Chilliwack); nephews: Brandon and Matthew (North Vancouver); sister: Rae Anne Hesketh (Campbell River); partner Dianne Lambert (Kamloops).

A celebration of Rob’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 15th at 3:30 p.m. at the Best Western Rainbow Country Inn in Chilliwack, 43971 Industrial Way.

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Canadian Cancer Society.
