(May 25, 1924 - May 11, 2009)

Robert Mansfield Burns was born in Thessalon, Ontario. He was the second son of seven children born to Elura and Chester Burns.

He lived most of his life in Sault Ste. Marie where he met Elsie, his wife of 63 years. He was the father of Sandra; twins: Vivian and Valerie, all of California; son, Chester, of Washington State; and sons-in-law, Theodore and Loren. He leaves behind five grandchildren: Jennifer, Neil, Michael, Nancy and Jefferey; and five great-grandchildren.

Robert served in WWII and was a prisoner of war. When he returned home, he was part owner of Soo Masonry Contractors. He later moved with his family to California, where he belonged to the Bricklayers Union.

He and Elsie have resided in British Columbia for the past 21 years.

We wish to express our gratitude to Veterans Affairs of Canada, Fraser Health Services and WECARE Home Health Services.
