Robert France

September 21, 2005

Robert France passed away peacefully early on September 21, 2005 at the Vernon Jubliee Hospital. Robert was born in Whitchurch, Shropshire, England on May 25, 1915.

He was a member of the Manchester City Police from 1939 to 1949. He also served with the Royal Armoured Corps in North Africa and Italy during Word War II. Robert, wife Grace, and two children emigrated to Canada in 1949. The family lived in several locations in B.C. before settling in Chilliwack in 1958. From 1958 until his retirement in 1974 he worked for the Livestock Branch of the B.C. Department of Agriculture. Robert and Grace moved to Vernon in 2001.

He will be fondly remembered by Grace, his wife of 65 years; daughter Brenda (Francois) Chevalier of Ottawa; and son Robert (Linda) of Coldstream. He was the proud grandfather of Caroline, Christine and Emilie (Ottawa); Brian (Coldstream), Kevin (Calgary), and Terri (Kamloops).

Robert was a kind, gentle man liked by all that knew him.

The family would like to thank Dr. Meyer for his excellent care over the past few years, and the staff at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for making him comfortable in his last few days.

There will be no funeral at his request.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
