Robert Edward THICKETT

It is with deep sadness the family of Robert Edward Thickett announce his passing on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2003 at Chilliwack General Hospital. He slipped away peacefully in the company of family and friends.

Rob was born in Hull, England on February 19, 1922, the only son of Eliza and Edward Thickett. He was educated in Hull, and apprenticed as a woodworking machinist. During the Second World War he served in the RAF.

March 24, 1945 was one of the best days of his life when he was married to Marjorie Waltham. Their marriage lasted 53 years, until Marjorie passed away in May 1998. In 1952, Rob emigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where he was joined the following year by his wife, Marjorie and daughter Lynda.

In Winnipeg he was a longtime employee of Bristol Aerospace Ltd., as a quality control inspector. During 1978 Rob and Marjorie moved to Calgary, Alta., where they resided until retirement. In 1986 they moved to Abbotsford, and then in 1995 settled in Sardis.

Rob is lovingly survived by daughter Lynda Joy (Rick); and sons, David (Jacqui), and Jeff (Penny); 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his sister Joan Daddy of Winnipeg, Man.; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews in Winnipeg and England.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Mar. 20, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. from the chapel of Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Rd., Abbotsford, with Rev. Dr. Trevor Walters officiating. Cremation.

Honourary pall bearers: David Thickett, Jeff Thickett, Rick Joy, and Steven Joy.

A reception followed at the Clubhouse, Promontory Lake Estates, 6001 Promontory Rd., Sardis.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Robert E. Thickett to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
