Robert Douglas HIGGS

Robert Douglas Higgs set sail into a new world on April 19, 2010. He passed away in Chilliwack Hospital at the age of 76 after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Doug was born on September 18, 1933 in Vancouver, BC. He had a great love and appreciation for sailing, golfing, hiking and good friends. While living in Burnaby, he and his wife, Phyl enjoyed many memorable days aboard their sailboat “Wahine X”.

After retiring from a career as an Electrical Estimator and Project Manager for Fred Welsh Ltd., he and Phyl moved inland to Chilliwack, BC. There they enjoyed retirement, travelling and golfing their way around Western Canada and the United States, always making good friends through their journeys.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, shipmate and golf partner of 50 years, Phyl, their three sons and daughters in law; Wayne (Jayne) of Surrey, Les (Roberta), Prince George, and Terry (Katie) of Seattle; thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and Doug’s sister, Dorothy Shawyer, Vancouver.

In Doug’s honour, there will be a “Celebration of Life” gathering for friends and relatives at Thom Creek Ranch, 5700 Jinkerson Rd., Chilliwack, BC on May 8th, 2010 from 1 till 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing, or to the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation, Palliative Care Unit Chilliwack Hospital, 7324 Hurd Street, Mission, BC V2V 3H5 in memory of Robert Douglas Higgs.
