MAYNARD

Richard John

With great sadness we announce the passing of Richard John (Dick) Maynard on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the age of 74. He was born in Chilliwack on October 27, 1929 and lived in the Valley all his life.

He leaves his wife Marion, of 43 years; daughter Karen Nemecek (Ron); and a very close special friend, Dave Parsons (Millie).

He was an avid fisherman, many called him silent ‘Dick’, he never gave away where the fishing was great. He fished from the Island to the Alberta border with his wife and daughter.

He was employed at Cultus Lake Provincial Parks for 30 years. He was a member of the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club and Fraser Valley Wood Turners Association.

He will be sadly missed by his siblings, Alice Carter, Gladys (Alex) McCaughan, Florence Drake, Mavis (Roy) Talpey, Bea (Syd) Mawbey, Wes (Lois) Maynard, Alf Maynard, Fred Maynard, Mae Hill, Vivian (Norman) Hetland, and Don (Lila) Maynard; sister-in-law Phyllis Maynard; brother-in-law Ray Marlatt; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by both parents, Rennie and Audrey Maynard; brothers, Leroy in 1942, and Delmer in 1995; and sister Elsie in 1999.

We will miss his keen sense of humour, practical jokes, his many inventions, and exquisite works of art.

Memorial services were held at Henderson’s Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003. Officiated by Rev. Michael Hare. Hymns led by Pastor Sharon Gaetz.

Dick’s final wishes were carried out Sunday evening September7, 2003 at Island 22 on the Fraser River with friends and family and Cultus Lake Bagpiper Brittney Lynn Otto.

Memorial donations may be made to the B.C. Lung Association.
