Armitage; Richard William. It is with great sadness that the family of Richard William Armitage announce his peaceful passing. Born January 22nd 1930, Richard passed away on October 9th, 2013 at Chilliwack General Hospital after a brief battle with leukemia. Affectionately known as Dick, he was a long-time resident of Sardis where he owned and operated Henry's Meat Market for 23 years. He was one of the first volunteer firemen to serve in the Sardis Fire Hall #4. During his 37 years with the hall he served most of these as the fire chief. In his semi-retirement years he worked for the District of Chilliwack. When he finally retired he enjoyed fishing, hunting, travelling through the far north and working on the farm with his tractor.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn of 61 years; his daughters, Cathy and Nancy (Barry) Anderson; his grandchildren Brent and Robin; his sister Shirley (John) Spenst and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Isabel and older brother Wally. He will be dearly missed by all.

A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, October 19 at 1:00pm at the Carman United Church in Sardis.
