It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Vanderveen, husband, father and Opa, at the age of 83 in Chilliwack, BC.
Peter was born in Spanga the Netherlands as the oldest of five siblings.
He married in 1953 to Jessie Bosma and five days after were on board the ship Groote Beer heading to Canada to start a new life.
They sailed from Rotterdam to Montreal and then travelled by train to Mission, BC where he worked for a farmer.
He rented a farm in Hatzic Prairie for three years and then moved to Chilliwack where he rented again before buying the home farm in Rosedale in 1960.
He farmed there until his youngest son took over in 2005 . He enjoyed farming and was happy to have his two sons close to him on the farm.
Peter is predeceased in the Netherlands by his brother Frits; brother-in-law, Jan Veldhuis; and two sisters-in-law: Alie and Gooitske Bosma.
Peter is survived by his wife Jessie; sons: Mike (Sue) and Allan (Tina); and his daughters: Sandra, (Bruce) Adeline and Louise (Mario); and his grandchildren: Taylor, Kyle, Alex, Heidi, Jeffrey, Sean, Amara, Braydyn, Jonay, Kyra and Evan.
He is also survived by one brother (Jacob)]; two sisters: (Betty and Geertje); two brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law, all of whom live in the Netherlands.
The family would like to send out special thanks to Dr Hirst, nurses and caregivers at the Chwk Hosp & Cascade Lodge.
