October 27, 2022
Peter Nickel passed away, peacefully, surrounded by family, Thursday, October 27, 2022, just a week before his 89th birthday. Left to process all the stories and adventures are: Frieda, his wife of 67 years, children Sharon (Ken), Jim (Lana), Dianne (Al), Darlene (Alan), Susan and Jerry, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three sisters-in-law, Frieda and Helen Nickel and Rosalie Siebert.
Peter taught school in Port Alberni, Cariboo Country, Yukon, but mostly in the Chilliwack area. For thirty five years he explained math and science, coached team sports, led choirs, coffeed with colleagues, sometimes drove bus and filled in for Santa Claus. On the weekends he was very active in his church, singing and sharing his gifts.
He was a singer and harmony maker, swimmer, softball player, puzzle maker, fixit guy, bedtime story teller, garden grower, maker of jam, reader of maps, adventurer, and lover of God's creation. We remember him fondly.
We are grateful to all who cared for and appreciated Peter: Care-giver Joan and the wonderful, loving staff at Hampton House and Cascade Lodge.
A celebration of life will be planned for the summer of 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
