Peter John Humphreys passed away peacefully in the presence of family members on February 28, 2011 at Cascade Lodge, Chilliwack, B.C. at the age of 88 years. Peter was born in London, England and emigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 3.

He joined the Merchant Navy at the beginning of WWII. In 1943 he joined the BC Provincial Police and was posted to Alert Bay. It was while posted in Zebellos in 1947 he met the love of his life, Edith Newcombe, whom he married in 1948. In 1950 Peter became an RCMP member upon the takeover of Provincial policing responsibilities, retiring in 1970 from the Hope Detachment.

In 1971 he began working with the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board, until 1983. Peter was actively involved with the BC Provincial Police Veteran’s Association, RCMP Veteran’s Association, Ionic Lodge #19, the Chilliwack Shrine Club and the Shriner’s Scooter Corps.

Upon retirement, Peter and Edith pursued a lifetime interest in golf and travel with many of their close friends. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Edith; sons John (Colleen), Walter (Randi) and Peter (Elaine); grandchildren, Loni, Erin, Brock, Scott, Carrie, Crystal, Jennifer and Ryan; great grandchildren; Hayden, Mitchell, Madison and Thandi; and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on March 10. 2011 at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack, B.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Peter’s name to the Shriner’s Transportation Fund, B.C. Lung Association or the Alzheimer Society of BC.
