Feb. 2, 1964 – Aug. 12, 2009
Born in Chilliwack, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 12 in the Bradley Centre of Chilliwack General Hospital.
Paul is survived by his parents, James and Jean Servizi of Chilliwack, brothers Marc (Marci) of Seattle and Eric (Tammi) of Courtenay and nephews Spencer, Reed, Jack and James.
Paul sustained a serious brain injury on June 29, 1982 during a Men’s Fastpitch game at Fraser Park. As a consequence, he remained fully paralyzed and resided in the Bradley Centre until his passing.
The 1982 accident occurred in the week following his high school graduation and had a profound effect on his family, friends and classmates, plus many in the community.
Paul was a gifted athlete and excellent student who was respected for his leadership, gentleness and caring personality. He received several awards over his short life; including MVP of the Annual East-West Hockey game and the Henderson Memorial MVP award at the 1976 Pee Wee Jamboree. He was a member of the CSSS Basketball Team and captain of the CSSS Soccer team that finished second in the Provincial Championship. In his Senior year, he was voted Snow King of the Winter Dance by his classmates. He was also assistant coach of the Senior Girls Soccer Team.
Paul was accepted to UBC prior to his accident with a goal of studying Sports Medicine.
The family thanks the staff and volunteers at the Bradley Centre for the excellent care and concern given Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Bradley Centre Life Enrichment Fund” at Chilliwack General Hospital or Chilliwack Community Services. A public Remembrance in Paul’s honour will be held on Thursday, September 3 at 3 pm at the UFV Theatre on the Chilliwack campus.
