Forrest was called home on July 5, 2022 at the age of 70 years. He was born in Storm Lake, Iowa but was raised in Orion, Illinois. Forrest was the first born to Norman and Darlene Stroup. He was baptized on March 30, 1952 and was confirmed on April 3, 1966.
Forrest was ordained in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod on July 11, 1978. His first church that he was called to serve was Grace English Lutheran Church in Brandon, Manitoba. After 10 years of service Forrest and his now family of 4 children moved to Chilliwack, BC to serve at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The last church he served was Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Edmonton, Alberta until his retirement in 2018.
Forrest is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Kristjan. His daughter Erika (Darcy), sons Josiah, Luke and Joshua (Kelsey), grandchildren Chelsie, Grafton, Faith, Ilyanna, Abigail and Cohen, great grandchildren Carter and Juniper. He was pre-deceased by his great grandson Cameron.
His first love was baseball, but he also enjoyed many other sports. He carried his love for these sports throughout his life and coached for many years in Brandon and Chilliwack. He had many other passions including teaching Bible studies, the American Civil War, the Battle of Little Big Horn, Western books and movies, fishing, board games, cheap movie theaters, playing cards and teasing his kids and grandkids. Our "Forrest", "Dad" or "Papa" will always be remembered for his ability to give numerous funny or silly nicknames to almost everyone he knew.
There will be a memorial service held on Thursday September 1, 2022, 7 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. To view live stream, please visit: https://chilliwacklutheran.com.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to Canadian Lutheran World Relief.
