It is with great sadness and wonderful memories, that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother (Baba), into the arms of our Lord, on October 5th, 2011, in her 91st year.
Mom was born in Gaje Wyzny, Ukraine on April 10th, 1921. She was predeceased by her husband and soul-mate, Steve, of 57 years in 2002. Also predeceased by a brother Mykola Huk, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and a sister in the Ukraine.
She will be remembered for her love of family, generous kind heart, gentle caring soul, and unbelievable strength. Mom and Dad had many stories to share of their youth in Poland, Ukraine, Germany during WWII and Venezuela. Settling in Canada in 1952, they felt blessed to be living here.
Mom will be greatly missed by her daughter, Irene (Bob Simons); son Ed; 5 granddaughters, Nicole (Iain MacIntyre), Tanis (Adam Hill), Allison (Matt Giuliani), Amanda and Tara Kowalski, and 5 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Luke, Ashton, Ty and Andy. She is survived by a younger sister and brother in the Ukraine; a sister-in-law, Anna Huk, in Thunder Bay, Ont., nieces and nephew Halya, Petrussia and Bo; and 2 nieces in New York, Irene Kozak and Daria (Tom) Sapienza; and many wonderful long-time friends from Red Pass, Boston Bar and Chilliwack.
Special thanks to the caring nurses and staff of the Irene Thomas Hospice Centre in Ladner, for their gentle care on mom’s final journey.
Prayers will be offered at 6 pm Tuesday, Oct. 11th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Chilliwack, B.C., where Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, October 12th, at 1 pm. Interment to follow.
