(Mar. 5, 1922 - Aug. 25, 2009)

It is with great sadness we announce that Oscar Depner, age 87, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, at Heritage Village on August 25, 2009, following a lengthy illness.

He leaves behind to mourn his beloved wife Martha with whom he shared 59 years; his two sons, Art (Agnes) and Harry (Carol); his three daughters, Betty (Harvey) Bucholtz, Elsie (Ervin) Halvorson, and Sylvia(Rene) Pawlitzki; as well as ten grand children; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Schier.

Oscar was predeceased by his parents, Jakob and Karoline Depner; five brothers, Arnold, Otto, Paul, Ewald and Alfred; and one sister Elsa Kruger.

Born in Poland, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Edmonton, Alberta, where he married his sweetheart, Martha, on May 20, 1950.

Shortly after they purchased a farm near Nisku, AB, where they farmed for many years, Oscar continued his carpentry and plastering skills on the side.

In 1967 they moved to Chilliwack with their four children to retire. They purchased a small apartment building to support themselves. After caring for their elderly parents until their death, Oscar discovered the joy of fishing. Shortly thereafter their daughter Sylvia was born.

In spite of ill health their retirement years were filled with many trips to California, Arizona and Hawaii.

Martha lovingly nursed him for many years at home until his brief stay at Heritage Village.

A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Saturday, August 29 at 10:30am followed by a tea. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
