Norman Walter (Norm) BESTWICK

Norman Walter (Norm) Bestwick was born in Vancouver, B.C. February 5th, 1936.

It is with great sadness we announce his sudden passing in Chilliwack General Hospital on August 31st, 2006 with his family by his side. He was 70 years old.

Survived by his loving family. Wife Shirley, with whom he celebrated 42 years of marriage on August 28th. Son John (Simone) Bestwick and their children Chase and Emily. Daughter Marnie (Frank Hoppe, Jr.) Bestwick. Brother Bob (Barb) Ablitt sister Candice Bestwick and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Norm was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Many times he took a days holiday to go on a school field trip with his kids, accompanied by Shirley.

Norm and Shirley were married in Vancouver and their children were born there. In 1972 they moved to Port Coquitlam then in 1977 they moved to Agassiz.

Norm has been a consistent friend of Bill W. for over 31 years. He was a Life Member of the Agassiz Agricultural Association, serving in many capacitites. He served as assistant leader of the Agassiz 4H Holstein Club for several years. For the past six years he has been active on the Kent Institution Citizens Advisory Committee. Norm was also a volunteer with the Harrison Festival of the Arts, he especially enjoyed driving the entertainers to and from the airport.

Norm had many health challenges with arthritis and heart failure during the past 10 years. He fought a courageous battle and seldom complained.

Many thanks to Dr. Lachlan McIntosh and the staff of NU3 for their compassionate care of Norm and his family during this difficult time. Norm will be missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 9th, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. in the Agricultural Hall, Pioneer Avenue, Agassiz, B.C.

In lieu of flowers should family and friends so desire donations in his memory may be made to St. Paul’s Hospital towards the Heart Center, 1081 Burrard St. Vancouver, B.C. V6Z 1Y6 or the Arthritis Society Suite # 200 - 1645 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V6J 1S4 or the charity of your choice.
