Oct. 16, 1924 – Sept. 23, 2009

Norm passed away at home in Chilliwack, surrounded by loved ones on September 23rd, after a lengthy struggle with renal failure.

Norm was a wonderful and compassionate man who lived life joyfully, with humor and love. He enriched the lives of many, but no more so than that of his wife Lorna, who was his lifelong friend and companion.

Sharing in Lorna’s huge sense of loss are their children: Julie Short, Nancy McDougal, Deborah Shearing, Norman Shearing Jr. (Patti Hinds), Carolyn Samarin (Drew Samarin), their grandchildren: Erin, Kelly, and Jessica Short; Alyson McDougal, Graeme Foote; Carly and Stewart Young; Giles (Marnie), Arran, Brett, and Anna Shearing and Brenna Samarin, and their great-grandchildren: Aidan, Ella, and Cameron, who have been blessed by having Norm in their lives if only for a brief period.

Norm was the only child of Mary and Ernest Shearing and grew up in Vancouver – “my city” as he was known to say.

Norm loved his work in architecture and continued building and creating throughout his life. His true passion, however, was caring for his family and wide circle of friends. He was a constant source of inspiration, patience and fun. He made time for everyone. As his world got smaller his friendship circle grew larger to include his caregivers, and the wonderful nurses at the Abbotsford dialysis clinic. Many hours were spent on the road between his home and the clinic where he greatly enjoyed the company and friendship of the fine people charged with making sure he arrived safely.

In his memory, hug your children often.

There will be an afternoon of memory moments Sunday October 4th, from 2pm to 5pm at the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club, 41894 Yale Road, Chilliwack, BC.
