Smith, Nora Kathleen
Nora Kathleen Smith passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital on December 24, 2013 in her 94th year. She was born May 11, 1920 in Sheerness, England. She married Bill Smith in 1942 and their daughter Pamela was born in 1944. In 1947, Nora, Bill, his father William Sr. and Pam immigrated to Canada, settling in Chilliwack. Leaving behind family and friends was hard and being in a new country was a hardship at first. Soon though, they were established, and without family, made lots of friends that they cherished.
Daughter Barbara was born in 1953 and was a lovely addition to our small family. Many years of camping trips and picnics and family fun followed. Bill passed away December 1986 and Barbara died in a car accident in 1988. In 1989, Nora married Kenneth Garner, and continued to live in Chilliwack and have a busy life. Ken passed in 2006.
Nora is survived by her daughter Pamela Reichelt and husband Robert, her sister, Sheila in California and sisters, Stella and Jo in England; step children and step grandchildren.
Nora was an extremely generous and caring person who loved family get togethers and fun. She enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading and loved her dogs. She danced with the Happy Tappers in her 80's and was active in Eastern Star Lodge- taking her turn as Worth Matron.
Thank you to the staff at Norman Manor, the Fraser Health Care aides and the staff on the 4th floor of the hospital for their excellent care of Mom. A special thank you to Dr. Gordon Enns for his compassion and kindness.
Memorial Tea will be held on Friday, January 31st at the Masonic Hall on 45905 Hocking Ave. Chilliwack beginning at 2 pm.
