October 19, 1949 - October 26, 2021
It is with great sadness that we share the sudden passing of our dear husband, father and papa Nelson Douglas Rioux.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years Betty, three children; Kathleine (Pat) Emerson, Katreina Gardner, and Pat (Nicole) Rioux. Papa to five grandchildren, Deryk Emerson, Ashleigh Emerson, Kennedy (Austin) Jansen, Jack Rioux and Sophie Rioux. Also, sister-in-laws Debbie Rioux, Mary (Dave) Yip, Theresa French and brother-in-law Patrick (Deb) French. As well as, several nieces and nephews. Nelson was predeceased by both his parents, nephew Brian and brother Dennis.
Papa joined the Canadian Air Force at the age of 19 and served for 28 years, providing an excellent foundation for the person he was. His second career, of almost 23 years, was with his Phantom Screens Int'l family, which was a source of great joy and purpose for him.
Papa was known for his less than politically correct sense of humour. He was a kind and thoughtful man, known for his quick wit and retort. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the monthly golf tournaments and weekly darts at Vedder Golden Legion Branch 280. Following his wishes, there will not be a formal service, but a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Papa was never one for sentiment or religiosity, but he wanted you to know that if he owes you a drink, and if you can find him in the afterlife, he will buy you one with a smile (and you know who you are).
In place of flowers, a donation to the Kidney Foundation of Canada would have been Nelson's choice.
A special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the Renal Department at ARH, especially Dr. Chum, staff at CGH, ARH and RCH, his occupational therapist Melody G. and, Sue and Iris at Pentlands, Chilliwack.
