April 19, 1927 - November 4, 2020
In the early morning of Wednesday November 4, 2020 Nell Rutley, (Eleanor Elizabeth), passed away peacefully in her sleep, in her 93rd year, at her care home, Cascades Lodge, Chilliwack, with family by her side.
Born on April 19, 1927 in Botha, Alberta, she was a carefree prairie girl who loved to ride her horse on the open prairie. She moved to the Valley with her parents, Alex and Maggie Easson, and brother George, in 1941. In 1943 they purchased the family farm on Gibson Rd, and started dairy farming Guernsey's.
She graduated from Chilliwack Senior Secondary School in 1945. The family attended Cheam United Church, and it was at that time that she met the love of her life, Don Rutley, a tree faller from Popkum. They courted in Don's family's pig truck, and on June 27, 1951 they were married.
Nell was active in the Rosedale United Church for years, in the 4-H community as a leader of the Guernsey Club and supporter of community activities in the Camp River Hall.
Nell was pre-deceased by Don on November 2, 2010, and by their daughter Triena. She lives on in the memory of her four boys, DOUG (Michele): Morgan, Brock, Pearce, Brendan; BRUCE (Lois): Ryan, Trevor; BOB (Diane): Adele, Sabrina, Grant, (Mary) James, Christina; and SCOTT (Karen): Aidan, Alexis, Shane, and 13 great grandchildren.
Covid 19 made her last months difficult as family visits were very limited, but she was clear of mind and able to talk by phone to keep her spirits up through this time right until her last hours.
An online memorial service will be held at 2 pm on December 12, 2020. You are invited to contact Doug Rutley by phone at 604 795 9793 or by e-mail at barneyglotz@shaw.ca for an on line memorial link.
