“Helluva Guy”

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Mike Henry Michaloski on Monday, March 17, 2008.

He was born into a large family in the community of Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan on January 18, 1936.

His family then moved to British Columbia where he grew up and attended school in Agassiz and worked for a period of time in the logging industry.

In 1964, Mike began his career with Corrections Canada, where he worked at several different institutions, including Matsqui Peni–tentiary and Kent Institution. He took great pride in his work and strived hard to earn respect from all who knew him. In 1984, he was awarded “The Corrections Exemplary Service Medal” in recognition of 20 years of loyal and meritorious service to law enforcement in Canada. In 1989, he left Corrections and went to work for Canada Immigration for a period of five years, where he had the opportunity to travel all over the World.

Although he retired after 30 years of service with the Federal Government, he then took a position with the Matsqui Police, until he had a stroke in 1995.

Mike was an active and avid outdoorsman. Apart from his work, he enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing, and also excelled at many sports, both playing and coaching hockey and baseball, and winning several track and field awards at the Correctional Services Regional Meets.

Some of the fondest memories of Dad, were our family sing-a-longs. He loved playing the guitar, writing songs, and was a talented singer, with a charming voice.Mike lived his past two years at Worthington Pavilion in Abbotsford.

He was the epitome of grace, dignity, strength and patience. He was of strong will, and great resolve. To know him, was to love him. He will be missed dearly.

There will be no service at his request.

In lieu of flowers to the family, please make donations in honour of Mike, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
