Melanie was predeceased by her husband of 46 years Mr. John Alfred Polley.

She is survived by her only child Dorothy (Garth) Jones of Chilliwack, BC; two granddaughters Melanie (Patrice) Charette of Hanwell, AB, and Krista (Laine) Anderson of Pipestone, AB. Her pride and joy, her four great-grandchildren Nicholas and Jennika Charette and Hulaina and Chas Anderson and her loving companion for her last three years, Mr. Gordon Coxson of Yarrow, BC.

Mrs. Polley was well known as the manageress/owner of the Violetta Café across from CFB Chilliwack during the 50’s and 60’s and then onto owning of Stonehurst Lodge (known as La Mansione Restaurant). She was very proud to be born and raised a Czech and was the First Czech exchange student to study abroad in the USA of the Angus Scott College in Georgia and then studied English at the Oxford University in England.

She met the love of her life John, a member of the British Consol in Prague and they were married in July 21, 1945. They immigrated to Canada in August 1951 and settled eventually in Chilliwack in 1953 with their wonderful daughter Dorothy where Melanie has lived happily, telling all her stories and adventures to any open ears anywhere she went.

Mrs. Polley was in perfect health until August 2008 and passed away following a short but brave struggle with cancer.

The family would like to thank Crossroads Family Practice, in particular Dr. Bevan Voth. Also thanks to Dr. Causton and all the staff on all the floors at CGH, for all the excellent care and compassion that allowed her to die with dignity.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel at Henderson’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
