Mary Marie Dyck

Feb 2, 1925 - Sept 1, 2017

Mary was born in Sternau No 1, Ukraine, Russia to Gerhard Phillip Dyck and Maria Suderman.

She came to Canada with her parents in Oct 1926, thanks to a loan from the Canadian Mennonites' Board of Colonization. After an arduous journey from Russia , they settled in rural Stone Saskatchewan.

In 1946 her family moved to Chilliwack, BC. Mary worked at a variety of jobs including the Chilliwack General Hospital kitchen, Studebaker & Austin Car Sales and as a receptionist in a Doctors office.

She retired in 1995 but continued to be active in her volunteer work with her church, Eden Mennonite.

Mary moved from the family home to the Redwoods retirement community, and finally to the Valley Haven Retirement home.

She enjoyed the planned social activities and getting pampered by the staff. Mary died peacefully and went to be with her Lord on Sept 1, 2017.

Mary was a cheerful and hospitable lady, who was always willing to visit, share food and a laugh with family and friends. She claimed her nephews and nieces as her own and "spoiled them rotten!"

She loved gardening and her home on Harrison Street had the most colourful blooms and produce around.

Mary is survived by her sisters Margaret and Lena (Megchelsen), her brother George and her nephews and nieces.

She is predeceased by her parents, brother Phillip, brother-in-law Gerry Megchelsen, and sister-in-law Dorothy.

Mary will have a private burial. A memorial will take place on Sept 22 @ 11am at Eden Mennonite Church, Chilliwack.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to MCC.
