Mary Florence, age 81 years, passed away quickly and peacefully April 5, 2004 at Seton General Hospital in Jasper, Alta.
She was born December 18, 1922 on Herrling Island, B.C. to Edward and Minnie Nelson. Wed to Manuel Florence on July 16, 1955, she lived most of her life raising her family in and around the Lower Mainland. In July of 2000 Mary moved to Jasper to be near her daughter Agatha and son-in-law.
Mary loved taking pictures of her friends and family and was always a ray of happiness at any social gathering, big or small.
While never far from her native roots, Mary was particularly happy when, late in her life, her status was recognized in her Kwantlan Band.
Predeceased by husband Manuel on November 15, 1977.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Merle Nelson and Bob Florence (Trudi) of Chilliwack, Neita Nelson (Dan) of Deroche, Manuel Florence of Prince George, Agatha Johnston (Terry) of Jasper, Alta., and Genevieve Hurst (John) of London, England; many grand- and great-grandchildren; and her brother Melvin Nelson (Eva) of Rosedale.
Mary’s interment will take place with her husband Manuel in the Veteran’s section of the Little Mountain Cemetery in Chilliwack on April 30, 2004 at 11 a.m. Father Gary Gordon will officiate the service in the presence of her loving family and friends.
A luncheon will follow at St. mary’s Catholic Church Hall.
