With sadness, the family of Mary Czeck announces her sudden passing on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Born in Gadsby, Alberta in 1921 to Mark and Minnie Edgell, Mary spent her early years on the family’s farm where she loved to ride horses.
During the war years, she worked with other young Canadian women making ammunition to support our soldiers. One of those soldiers, Steve Czeck, became her husband and the love of her life. While Steve served with the military following the war, Mary courageously raised their four children. She cherished many long-time friends who treasured her humour and encouragement.
Mary and Steve retired to Chilliwack B.C., and this year celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Mary was the much-loved mother of Barbara (Roger Keller) of Melrose, Ontario, Marsha (Gary Hudson) of Lacey, Washington, Heather (Bob Rowe) of Richmond, B.C., and Steve (Jennine) of Chilliwack, B.C.
Grandma and great-Grandma will be loved and remembered by Rachelle, Joel and Erin Czeck, Christine, Jessica and Chelsey Rowe, Aaron and Matthew Hudson, Melaney and Derek Fraser, Mindy and Kurt Gough and their children Teddy, Anna, Enya, and Ivan. She will also be fondly remembered by her brother Francis Edgell and his wife Betty-Jean of Chatham, Ontario and by her brothers- and sisters-in-law; Georgina Edgell , John Check, Jean Swanson, Anne Krowchuk, Joe Czech, Bernice Selander, Valerie Archibald, Duane Bruce and their families.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her grandaughter Tiffany Keller and her brother John Edgell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm this Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Glad Tidings Fellowship in the Chapel, 46641 Chilliwack Central Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation, the Diabetes Foundation, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
