May 22, 1959 - September 15, 2022
Martin passed away on September 15th at Chilliwack General Hospital with his wife and family by his side, shortly after his esophageal cancer diagnosis. Born on May 22, 1959, in Middeton, NS, Martin will be remembered as an avid, resourceful outdoorsmen and a caring, committed husband, son and brother.
Martin will be deeply missed by his wife of 40 years, Gerty Fraser, parents John and Doreen Fraser, siblings Wendy Vance (Edward) and Malcolm Fraser, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Martin, being a child of a military family, spent his younger years overseas in France, Germany and later back in Canada-eventually graduating from Chilliwack Senior Secondary School. Martin began his career as a relief milker at the Agassiz Research & Development Centre, eventually doing field work and later working in the mill. His practical knowledge and strong work ethic allowed him to excel in his work, retiring as Integrated Services Manager.
Those who knew Martin, knew his love for the outdoors, which developed as a child when his dad taught him to fish. He became a keen fisherman, camper, and skilled hunter. He possessed an extensive knowledge of the BC wilderness and its waterways and always looked forward to the annual hunting and fishing trips with his wife Gerty.
Having a green thumb, Martin turned the backyard into a "farm" growing beautiful fruits and vegetables. He loved good food and enjoyed eating and sharing the fish and game he and Gerty brought home. He was a maker and sharer of preserves, pies, and bread. Never slowing down or having enough hobbies, Martin proudly spent 10 years on the executive of the Fish and Game Association, serving 3 years as president. A lifelong learner, he developed a keen interest in photography and produced beautiful photographs of scenery and wildlife, along with the yard farm and the hummingbirds, bees and butterflies it attracted. Martin was a resourceful and talented man, he beautifully renovated the kitchen, built mason bee houses, enjoyed knife sharpening, and was always getting gear ready for the next adventure.
Martin will be missed. May the memory of him live on through all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 at Henderson's Funeral Home from 1-2 PM with a reception from 2-4. All who knew Martin are welcome to attend.
