On Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the age of 98, Marjorie (Meg) Grattan joined her beloved husband Roderick and their first born daughter Judith in heaven.

She is survived by her sons Peter (Rilla) and Ron (Judy), daughter Pam (Bill), grandchildren Marshall (Jill), Tricia (T.O.) and Mike (Kate), and great grandchildren Tristan and Malcolm.

Meg was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she met and married Roderick in 1939. As Rod was a bush pilot in northern Quebec and Ontario, she accompanied him to many remote locations, often living in a 12 foot square tent. During this time, Meg and Rod were blessed with two sons. In 1947, Rod retired and the family moved to Duncan, B.C. Soon after settling on Quamichan Lake, their daughter Pamela was born.

Meg was very involved as a volunteer with community organizations. She worked with the Scouting Movement for many years and was also a member of the Cowichan District Hospital Woman’s Auxiliary, St. Peter’s Anglican Church Woman’s Auxiliary and the Cancer Society. Throughout the years Meg and Rod sponsored many underprivileged children overseas.

Meg and Rod moved to Chilliwack in 2000 to be closer to family. Rod lived in the extended care unit at Chilliwack General Hospital and passed away in 2001. Meg lived in the Lynnwood Retirement Residence for ten years and in Glenwood Care Home in Agassiz for the past two years. Meg requested her body be donated to UBC for medical education, exemplifying her giving nature. Her ashes will be placed with Rod’s at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Duncan.

Meg was a strong, wise, loving woman who taught many values and life lessons that are still part of all of us who knew and loved her.

A special thank you to the staff at Glenwood Care Home for the wonderful care and support given to our mother and us over the last two years. There will be no funeral at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
