Marius Onos

Age 77, passed away on Sept 10, 2022 in his home in Rosedale, BC.
Marius is survived by his wife of 56 years Johanna Onos, his sons Marc (Nanda), Dave (Kate), Heidi (Jared), and his 9 grandchildren. Marius was born in Lisserbroek, The Netherlands on November 22, 1944 and was the 6th of 15 children born to Geertje and Hendrick Onos.
Marius was born a business man and in 1963 at the age of 19 started his own business "Onos Hama" doing custom farm work for bulb growers in the region. He later started growing his own tulips in greenhouses for the cut flower market and he also grew carrots year-round for the fresh vegetable market.
Marius and his family immigrated to Canada in the summer of 1990 and purchased their farm, Onos Greenhouses Ltd, in Rosedale BC. His dream to start a tulip farm in Canada began. Over the years along with the help of his family, Onos Greenhouses has grown into a successful year-round flower growing operation that specializes in cut tulips, hyacinths and many other greenhouse and field grown cut flowers.
In 1995 as a result of an accident on the farm, Marius became quadriplegic. Though able to walk short distances his main form of mobility for the last 27 years was in a power wheelchair. Despite not being able to participate physically any longer in the workings of the greenhouses, Marius continued to guide and teach both of his sons and grandsons everything he knew about growing flowers, his knowledge was extensive.
