“Ron”

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and opa, Marinus “Ron” Meermans on September 21, 2008.

Although he will be dearly missed, we are thankful knowing that our Lord and Father has chosen, in his wisdom, to call him to his eternal home.

Ron was born January 10, 1934 in Bruinisse, The Netherlands. With his new bride “Kitty”, he immigrated in 1957 to Canada, where they finally settled in Chilliwack in 1959. He woked for Fraser Valley Foods for over 34 years, first as office manager and later executive comptroller.

Since 1993, he has been retired and loving every “day off”. He had been active as a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, also filling the role of executive director, treasurer and bible study leader. He was also involved in the community as an advocate for mental health and supportive housing. Ron loved to talk to people everywhere and could be found in any place keeping the laughter and conversation going.

Ron was married to Kitty and loved his wife for 51 years. They became one spiritually, joined in their deep faith in God. He was a caring father and remained a strong centre of the family. His son Ron, and his daughter Jackie, along with her husband Carey, could always count on him for his guidance, love and support. He loved being Opa to his one and only granddaughter, Elina. He found special joy in having their little talks while driving her to school and sports, and taking her for special treats.

Ron is also survived by his brothers, Leen, Gerrit and Jaap and his sisters Janny and Pietje in the Netherlands and also his sister, Willy in Australia.

He was predeceased by his parents, Pieter and Jacoba and sister, Riet.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8871 School St. Chilliwack, BC beginning at 12:30 pm.

The Funeral Service will begin at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow at Chilliwack Cemetery.
