Marie was born March 1, 1929 in Makkum, Friesland, Netherlands. She married her sweetheart Joe in 1949 and after the birth of their first born son, they boldly embarked on a journey to Canada where they first settled in Sylvan Lake, Alberta in 1950. Mom and Dad were proud to become Canadian citizens in 1957. British Columbia eventually became their home when they moved to Harrison Hot Springs in 1974. Marie married Dirk Zandberg in 1982 and together they resided in Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

Mom was a playful, adventurous lady who loved to laugh and travel. A heartfelt thank you goes to the staff at Heritage Village residential care home who lovingly cared for Mom in the frailty of her last days. Funeral service to be held 11:30 am, Saturday, October 11th at Henderson's in Chilliwack.
