Mabel Seekins passed away suddenly at Chilliwack General Hospital on Nov. 17th. A loving and protective mother, sister, and aunt, Mabel will always be remembered for her quick wit and kind heart towards family and friends.
Daughter of George Penning and Nellie Penning (Reading), she spent her childhood in Vancouver and Campbell River, but lived in Chilliwack for decades, well over thirty years in the same house on Portage Avenue. Merv and Mabel had good long-term friends in town.
Mabel was a whiz at numbers and worked most of her life as a bookkeeper, although she did take a bartending course once and could make a perfect Spanish Coffee. She was always the most prepared camper; she never forgot anything on family vacations.
She should've been on Let's Make a Deal for all the stuff she had ready in her purse for any eventuality (seriously - bee sting remedy?).
Mabel was predeceased by her husband Mervin (d. 1992), and is survived by her younger sister and best friend, Linda Blow (Woodroff).
She is also survived by her children Terry and Sandra Seekins, and their partners Kim and Louise; her niece Debbie Daley, her husband Jim, and their sons Justin and Kyle, Kyle's wife Alexa and their son Kiernan; her nephew Michael Woodroff, his wife Paula, and their two children Turner and Tristin, and her sister-in-law Lenore Jackson.
The family wants to thank the wonderful ER nurses at Chilliwack General Hospital, who were so caring during Mabel's last hours. Mabel's relations and friends have great memories to sustain them, including large family dinners and parties. The family likes to think of Mabe and Merv having a much-anticipated reunion, complete with Neil Diamond records and dancing.
We love you Mabel; rest easy, always in our hearts.
