Louise Anne (nee Woelk) EWERT

January 28, 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Louise Anne Ewert (Woelk) on January 28, 2007: mother, daughter, sister, friend.

Louise was predeceased by her mother Katherine in 1958, husband Walter in 1990 and father Jake in 2005.

She is remembered with love by her sons Ken and Chris, (step)mother Minnie, sisters Carol and Lillian, brothers Jake (Norlaine), Peter, Albert (Florence), John (Valerie), Robert (Rhonda), and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and their children.

Louise was born in Herbert, Sask. on October 11, 1941, the second of eight children.

Tragedy struck the family in 1958 when a car accident took the life of their mother and seriously injured their father. Relatives helped out with the younger children, and Louise took on the household management. By 1962 her father had remarried and she felt able to move to B.C., joining her brother Jake.

She married Walter Ewert on March 28, 1964. They purchased his parents’ poultry farm on Yale Road, living there when Ken and Chris were born.

After selling the farm, the family moved to Lickman Road and then to 40 acres on Hinkley Road. For several years they also owned an orchard at Oyama, which produced apples, peaches and cherries.

In 1980 Louise began working at Sears, first in the candy department and then in jewelry. Sadly, in January 1990 Walt passed away after a courageous struggle with cancer. Louise subsequently sold the Hinkley Road property nd the orchard and built a house in Sardis.

Louise loved her family, both immediate and extended. She loved her home and took pleasure in furnishing it with beautiful things. She loved her garden and also loved sharing its bounty as cut flowers and plant divisions. She delighted in the Bible Study Group she belonged to and felt blessed by their support. She greatly enjoyed traveling, and over time went to the Bahamas, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Bermuda, Hawaii and Bali, plus making many visits to Saskatchewan.

A service of celebration will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Greendale M.B. Church, 6550 Sumas Prairie Road, Chilliwack, with Mr. Rusty Reimer officiating. Viewing will be available at the church prior to the service.  Burial will take place after the service, followed by a reception at the church.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, M.C.C. or the Christian Children’s Fund.
