October 2, 1951 - September 22, 2021
With broken hearts we announce that Lorraine Sylvia Krahn (Dueck) passed away peacefully on September 22 at the age of 69 years old. Lorraine is now at peace after three months of a most courageous battle with brain cancer. It was during this time that our family adopted the motto "One Step At A Time, Dear Jesus".
Lorraine is survived by her loving family: her husband, Walt, of 48 years, daughter Tanya (Trevor), son Clayton ( Danica), and daughter Larissa (Eddy) and was known as Grandma Lola to ten grandchildren -Bailor, Boston, Beckett, Tai, Isaiah, Harper, Kherington, Haddison, Kaitlin, and Luca.
Lorraine was born on October 2, 1951 to William (1925-1985) and Katrina Dueck in the Atchelitz area. She was the second born of six children: Gil (Susan), Pat (David), Heather, Darlene (David) and Ken. She attended Atchelitz elementary, MEI, and graduated from Sardis Secondary.
Lorraine and Walt met in grade 11 and became high school sweethearts. They married on April 19, 1973. Lorraine attended SFU and served as a teacher at Simonds Elementary in Langley before transferring to Chilliwack to teach at Bernard, Tyson, Cultus, and Strathcona Elementaries. Lorraine loved her teaching career and instilled the joy of learning to approximately 1500 students throughout her career.
She lived by the adage "if you love what you do and know that it matters... what could be more fun?"
Lorraine was a member of the Greendale MB church where she attended for 69 years. She attended Sunday School, was active in her youth group, played the church organ and piano and taught Sunday school and Pioneer girls. She loved her church family.
Lorraine loved traveling, with winters usually spent with friends and family in Palm Springs. This remained Lorraine's happy, special place until the end of her life. Walt and Lorraine visited countries all over the world but Africa was still on their bucket list.
Lorraine was known for her epic backyard parties where she and Walt hosted everything from family BBQs, church picnics, family reunions, grad reunions, to a number of weddings. She loved her home and backyard and was an expert at hosting large events in a seemingly effortless way.
Lorraine loved being active and most days you could find her at the YMCA, Ascend Fitness, or on the rotary trail. She could walk faster than anyone else we knew and would often challenge her family to a "plank off" which she always won!
Affectionately known to her grandchildren as Grandma Lola, Lorraine was intentional about making every family member feel special. She loved her grandchildren and many activities were centered around connecting with them - baking, swimming, vacationing, reading, crafts and attending sporting events. She understood the importance of creating memories and devoted huge amounts of time to make celebrations a part of the Krahn DNA. Lorraine lived for family gatherings; whether a casual afternoon at the pool with her kids and grandkids or a formal holiday or birthday celebration with all 18 of them at the table.
Lorraine is remembered as a kind, gentle, positive person who loved to laugh and shriek with boundless energy. She was loved by all who knew her.
The family would like to publicly thank Dr. Alandra Quayle, Dr. Shelley Tweedle, and the staff at Cascades Hospice for their genuine care and support for Lorraine during this difficult journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Starfish Backpack program or the Cascade Hospice in Lorraine's name would be greatly appreciated.
Lorraine's Celebration of Life will be held at the First Ave Church (46510 First Ave) on Lorraine's 70th birthday, Saturday, October 2 at 2 pm. All are welcome.
