BRITTON, Lorena

The Britton family is sad to announce the passing of
our beloved, tough-as nails matriarch, Lorena
Rose Britton. Born in 1928 to Gilbert and Clara
May Hitchings, Lorena scratched an admirable
education from a one-room Saskatchewan schoolhouse,
and completed it near age 50 at Fraser Valley College. A lifelong learner, she took
full advantage of the college and completed bookkeeping and creative writing in addition
to her GED. Lorena was a writer with work published in Alfred Hitchcock's Magazine. She
tutored inmates at Kent prison and helped translate Chilcotin. Lorena was a mother to 6,
grandmother to 16, and great-grandmother to many. She shared the same endless love and
enthusiasm with all.
Lorena always did her best and instilled in us the importance of doing the right thing at all
costs. She fostered love and understanding and never wavered from her convictions on the
importance of family.
Lorena is predeceased by her loving husband Anthony John. A Baptist and a believer, Lorena
and Tony embodied what it means to be truly Christian: an open door, open fridge, open
wallet, open hearts and open minds.
Lorena is survived by her loving children Ernie, Lindsay, Mark, Sandi Baldwin, Dale, Cary,
"adopted" daughter Sybil Thiessen, son and daughter's in-law and remaining Saskatchewan
relations.
A Celebration of Life and memorial will be held Sunday August 15, 2021 from 1-4pm at the Cub Scouts Hall.
