It is with great sadness and loss that we announce the passing of Lila Preston (nee Johnston) on July 8, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family.
Lila was born October 5, 1925 in Rosedale, BC in her family home. The youngest of 7 children by Alice & Robert Johnston, Lila spent the majority of her life in Chilliwack.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Sagar, daughters Rilla Buckley (Warren), Rhonda Bjerke (Calvin), Penny Dietrich (Brian), Andrea MacDonald (David), sons Grant (Renee), Greg (Paige), her 12 grandchildren Tricia (Brock), Chris, Sydney, Cole, Shelby, Logan, Rayel, Randall, Conner, Rilla, Parker & Olivia, her 2 great grandchildren Lauren and Jordan, her sister Merva Dickout (Quentin), sisters in law Irene Johnston, Svea Johnston & Vera Johnston and numerous nieces and nephews.
She spent her life dedicated to the love, care and attention to her family and friends. To her children and grandchildren she will always be remembered as truly the best and most devoted Mum and Grandma. She was very involved with her community and the Women’s Institute in Atchelitz. Always with her door open, baking at the ready and a fresh pot of tea for every visitor who sat at her table, her hospitality was legendary.
A special thanks from Lila’s family to Pat Johnston, our cousin, who was so dedicated to the excellent care of our Mum. And to her family doctor, Ken Hirst.
An additional thank you to Lila and Sagar’s friends, Helen and Ernie McDuff, Mrs. Dora Aarts, Mrs. Irene Adams, Doug and Marg Simpson, the DuBois and the Holitzki’s.
A tea will be held at Atchelitz Hall on Lickman Road in Chilliwack at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 14th in celebration of her beautiful life.
