It is with great sorrow that the family of Leslie Godfrey announce his passing from unforeseen complications following surgery.

Deepley saddened by his death are his wife of 56 years, Catherine, his six children Patti (Gary), Teri (Mike), Leslie (Art), Michele (Art), Bob (Karen), Daniel and Tracey who was like another daughter; his 11 grandchildren Mike (Denay), Sean (Monica), Chris, Heather, Nicole, Sarah (Brent), Emily, CJ, Ben, Tyler, Samantha and great-grandson Tyler, plus one on the way. Also left to mourn are his brothers Wilf (Dorothy), Bob, sister Gladys (Bill) and Carl, plus many nephews and nieces.

Les was predeceased by his parents Horace and Irene, niece Karen Godfrey and mother and father-in-law Esther and Harry Armstrong.

Les was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan and met, then married Catherine, the love of his life. They were married in Saskatoon in June 1952.

They embarked on a wonderful family life, spending time in Jasper, Edmonton and Kitimat before settling in Victoria for the majority of their children’s school years.

hey also spent a number of years living in Surrey, just prior to his retirement and in Sidney following his retirement. They spent the last six years living in Chilliwack on Michele and Art’s farm where dad enjoyed puttering in his garden and greenhouse and enticing flocks of birds to his many feeders.

Les’s working career began with the CN Railway in Saskatoon, followed by several years at the aluminum smelter in Kitimat and many years as a longshoreman on the west coast.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to surgeon Dr. Lewis, dad’s family physician in Chilliwack, Dr. Grunow and the staff of the third floor Medical Unit of Chilliwack Hospital who were exceptional in their compassionate care and respect of dad and our family during his final days.

“Dad this is the longest drive you’ve ever hit - a straight shot to heaven.”

Funeral Mass and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 1:00 PM at St. Mary’s Parish, 8909 Mary St. Chilliwack, B.C. Interment will follow at a later date in Victoria, B.C.

Viewing will be made available from 12 noon - 1:00 PM Saturday, March 15, 2008 at St. Mary’s Parish. Donations in his memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Arrangements in care of McLean’s Funeral Services.
