April 5, 1932 – November 29, 2018
Leslie Charles Barnard passed away on November 29, 2018 in Chilliwack at the age of 86. Les is survived by his wife Alvina, sister Verda Chadburn, children Wayne (Moreen), Dale (Carol), Crystal (Grant), step-children Linda (Paul), Marty (Barbara), Barbara (Jess), and Sandra (Brian), 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Les was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mina Barnard, his brother Raymond and his first wife Joyce (Enger).
Les was born and lived his entire life in Chilliwack. He lovingly worked hard on his vegetable garden, with his fruit trees, in the acres of raspberries and cared for various animals on the acreage we called home. Les thoroughly delighted in hunting, fishing and camping with his friends and family. Many summer weeks were spent fishing at Wells Gray Park, water skiing and swimming at Shuswap Lake and hiking and biking in Kananaskis Park. He enjoyed hunting around Canal Flats, Rock Creek, Stuart River, and the Prince George area, hunting for elk, deer, and moose. There were many fishing trips at Babine, Sheridan and Tunkwa Lakes, whether successful or less successful he always had great “fishing stories” at the end of the day. He and Alvina travelled south and enjoyed the 100th Anniversary of the Rose Bowl Parade. They travelled to Nashville and experienced the fun of the Branson Country Music venues. They also took in the different scenery of a Panama Cruise. Dad delighted in watching and participating in many sports, individually and with his children and grandchildren.
Les was a truck driver and found joy in his time behind the wheel. He worked for Dairyland for 39 years and was recognized for a “Million Miles of Safe Driving”, of which he was extremely proud.
Les was a good hearted, kind, and loving man. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A special thanks to the staff at Eden Care Center and Dr. Ken Hirst for the loving care they provided.
For those who wish, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice in Les’s honour.
A memorial service for Les was held December 5 2018 at Henderson Funeral Home, Chilliwack BC. We wish to thank Brad and the staff for their kind support.
