Lera Isabelle Crewe, born January 9, 1923 in Seoul, Korea, died at 4:20 on April 13, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox. She was born an Avison and had many adventures as the daughter of a missionary doctor in Korea in the period before the Second World War. Later, as a nurse, she treated wounded combatants of many nations in Montreal, and, as one of five daughters of a doctor, was a welcome visitor in times of war on at least one aircraft carrier. She married Allen Crewe, a minister in the United Church of Canada, and had three children, Jenny, Murray, and Bill, who all, somehow, and with her example and guidance, turned out okay. She nurtured her own mother, her mother-in-law, a husband stricken with cancer and all who came into her orbit. She believed in love and acceptance of who you are. A favorite quote: “I never thought it was wrong, if you were in love”. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. Family left behind are two sisters, Margaret and Anne, three children, Jenny(Glenn), Murray(Linda), Bill (Amy), four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
