July 10, 1926 – August 6, 2006
Len passed away suddenly on August 6, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Len is survived by his wife of 55 years, Iris; his children: Jody (Stan), Gaye (Jeff), Dennis (Janice), Jana (Loyd); his grandchildren: Michael, Colleen, Carolyn, Andrea, Breanna, Bryce, Kendall, Devan, Kelly, Matthew; his sisters: Beverley, Gloria (Tony); sister-in-law, Diana (Ron) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Len, one of eleven children, grew up in Chilliwack, graduated from high school with top marks and went on to attend UBC with scholarships. He was an avid athlete, winning numerous awards in table tennis and basketball. He left UBC to join his father in his Chrysler dealership “Butchart Motors Ltd.”, which Len operated successfully for 30 years. Len was a founding member of the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club, where he pursued his lifelong passion of golf. His competitive spirit could also be seen in his consistent high scoring bowling games and of course his card games. When Len entered a room he filled it with sunshine! At gatherings with family and friends he often could be heard singing “Danny Boy”. He loved to share his music with everyone.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. We will all miss him dearly.
A Service will be held at the Chilliwack United Church on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the church hall.
Should family and friends so desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and Yukon.
